The city of Joliet sponsors the car show, events include burnouts, drag boat races on the river, motorcycle stunts, bands and fireworks. The entire event is informal, you can just walk into the site grounds and browse the cars, trucks, and drag boats. This year seemed less well attended than last year, possibly because Sunday was supposed to be the nicer of the two days and I attend on Saturday. Last year there were plenty of accessible truck owners accessible to discuss their build-ups and offer advice. When I left at 3:30 pm cars were still showing up for the car show.
The mud blast consists of two pits filled with water and mud that one can drive their truck through. As silly as this seems it's really a lot of fun. The near pit is the more difficult of the two. The far pit seems relatively easy provided you have at least 33 inch tall true mud tires. Other vehicles made it through but it was by no means easy and plenty of trucks were towed out of the easy pit. The entry fee for running your truck in the mud is $20.

This was one of the more unusual participants, and it has a license plate.
The deep pit can be clearly seen here. The Eclipse never made it through.
This was the first truck to make it through. It's a very nice build. Unfortunately late in the day it had to be towed out by a bulldozer, and the rear drive shaft was fished out of the mud.
