Monowall Magic Traffic Shaper Installation PDF Print E-mail

The newest version of m0n0wall has a magic traffic shaper wizard to get users started with bandwidth shaping, which is one of monowall's strongest features. Unfortunately it was pretty difficult for me to understand how to configure it until now. The wizard builds a set of rules that makes it much easier to understand how to properly configure bandwidth shaping.

Bandwidth shaping in its broadest sense assigns a priority to traffic. The higher the priority the more bandwidth is allowed, but not reserved. Low priority traffic will get 100% of the available bandwidth if there is no other traffic. Bandwidth shaping can prevent a  Voice over IP phone call from breaking up when junior decides he has to download a half dozen MP3's. monowall uses the  Dummynet portion of FreeBSD to perform it's bandwidth shaping.

I gave up riding 20 years ago because of wife, kids, responsibilities, etc. Mid summer this year I decided, much to my wife's dismay, that it was time to have some fun again. So I started looking for a practical comfortable bike. Maybe a Harley Road King Classic or a Heritage Softail Classic.

The back yard gets a new fence PDF Print E-mail

When we bought this house the fence in the back yard was chain link. We never really liked it because it's difficult to trim around and there's just no visual appeal. We did want a low fence because we get along pretty well with our neighbors, so a 4 foot high fence seemed to be the right height. We also wanted a fence that was a couple of inches off the ground so we could trim around it.

This article will attempt to explain what happens on a network when you click a link. It assumes that you're using an ethernet lan and the tcp/ip protocol suite. This is a very high level introduction to networking with links to provide more information.
