Security really is preventive maintenance, just like an oil change or checking the air in the tires. If you don't take preventive steps the computer will perform poorly, and all your money could get stolen as a worse case.
Most of these links are free, so money is not an excuse. At a minimum use one of the free anti-virus softwares and one of the free firewalls. The spyware stuff is becoming a necessity, I use Ad-aware, Spybot S&D and IE-Spyad . It's not uncommon to have 3 or 4 spyware programs slowing down your computer and interrupting your browsing. |
